Update January 2023

As discussed in ‘The Project’, the book will have 20 chapters and 20 episodes. By now, 17 chapters have been written, but most of them don’t have the accompanying episode. Out of 20, only 4 episodes have been finished.

I’m currently organizing all the content in a Word document, to plan the topics of the last two chapters.

After organizing everything, I’ll revise the previous chapters to correct any mistakes and try to make sure all the important content has been revised enough times. I will also try to distribute the content better: Some of the chapters teach way too much grammar content at once.

After making the necessary modifications, I’ll write the last two chapters, then finally finish the missing episodes. Lastly, I’ll see about the three last topics: illustrations, reviewing, editing and the actual publishing.

So, what’s left is:

  • Finish organizing content
  • Redistribute content and add reviewing for important content
  • Write last two chapters
  • Write missing episodes
  • Do illustrations
  • Review whole book
  • Edit the book
  • Publish

The Project

The plan for the book is:

Structure:

The book will be composed by 20 Chapters and 20 Episodes.
The Chapters and the base of the book, they comprise of the Pre-Reading, the Story and the Exercises.
The Pre-Reading are the explicit explanations of the most important content of the story that will follow. These are either new grammar or important verbs. Here is an example:

Each chapter will have 2 to 6 of these topics in the Pre-Reading. They’ll have explanations in English or Portuguese depending on how much we’ve progressed already and the level of complexity of the topic.

The Story is simple: it is a narrative text that follows up the story from the previous chapter, using the new grammar and introducing new vocabulary, that are accompanied by notes that introduce these new words.

The exercises are divided into 3 parts, grammar, vocabulary and practice.
The grammar part is used to train the new grammar, not much to discuss.
The vocabulary part is a small text with blanks to be filled by words given in the heading.
The practice part is a series of questions about the theme, to be answered in Portuguese. The recommended process is to write the answers, then repeat the questions and answer them orally.

That’s it! Feedback is welcome
